📈 According to EastFruit analysts, Ukraine increased its blueberry exports by 65% in 2021 compared to 2020.
At the same time, export volumes of fresh blueberries were 18% lower than in the record-breaking 2019. It should also be noted that the downward trend in the price of blueberries, which is unpleasant for Ukrainian exporters – in 2021, the average export price for blueberries was on average 9% lower than in 2020.
🚛 The peculiarities of the structure of blueberry export from Ukraine should also be noted. The geography of deliveries of this berry demonstrates that most of the harvest of Ukrainian producers was sold to Poland and Belarus, which then resold it to other countries. In particular, Polish intermediaries resold the berries further to the EU, earning additional funds on this. The same is with Belarus, which resells Ukrainian berries to Russian markets.
These two countries accounted for about 65% of Ukrainian exports in 2021. The third major importer is the Netherlands, which is also a major intermediary. Therefore, it can be stated that almost 70% of Ukrainian blueberry exports were to intermediary countries and only a third to consumer countries.
